Pericytes (BBB)

Brn.BBB.PrcCs
The vasculature of the central nervous system shows the highest pericyte coverage relative to other organs. The brain vessels harbor specialized pericytes, or respond to pericyte signals differently than other vessels. Certain pericyte markers may be brain-specific.

Pericytic aminopeptidase N (pAPN) is a pericyte-specific marker that appears on day E18 of brain angiogenesis. Diminished pAPN expression correlates with increased permeability of the blood brain barrier.
