Mature Ganglion Cells (GCL)

Eye.GCL.MGCs

Retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) are the earliest born neurons located in the ganglion cell layer, the basal layer of the retina. Ganglion cell dendrites collect the signals of bipolar and amacrine cells and their axons transmit these signals into the visual centers of the brain, via the optic nerve. In the mammalian retina, there are at least 10-15 morphologically distinct ganglion cells.
