Hepatocytes (LvL)

Hepatocytes are polarized cells, that represent the parenchymal cell of the liver. They contact the blood at their basal surface, which faces the sinusoidal endothelial cells, and they secrete bile from their apical surface, which faces the bile canaliculus. Hepatocytes gradually mature, alongside biliary network formation and connection to the extrahepatic bile ducts (EHBD), in a process which begins at E13 and continues until after birth, yielding the characteristic hepatic tissue architecture.
