Generation of endothelial cells using a chemically-defined medium

This protocol describes a method to generate purified endothelial cells from mouse embryonic stem cells. First, stem cells are plated on fibronectin-coated plates to generate FLK-1-positive cells. Then, this cell population is enriched by fluorescence or magnetic-activated cell sorting to yield a pure population of vascular progenitor cells. The sorted cells are then differentiated into endothelial cells, which display a cobblelstone morphology.
