Generation of renal progenitor cells from human embryonic stem cells

This protocol describes a method for generation of a mixed population of renal progenitor cells from human embryonic stem cells. The differentiated population expresses markers of metanephric mesenchyme and ureteric epithelium cells. In the protocol's first steps, two derivation conditions are provided, namely, application of a mixture of BMP4 and Activin A or application of CHIR99021. Results and conditions described in the following protocol steps relate to the BMP4/Activin A-based derivation method.
