Lung tissue from Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency-related emphysema patients vs. Lung tissue from healthy controls

Gene expression profiling of lung tissue from emphysema (EML) and  alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency-related emphysema (ADL) patients and from healthy control subjects.

Lung tissue was obtained from patients with severe emphysema, who were either undergoing lung volume reduction surgery or lung transplant surgery. The normal lung tissue (NML) samples were obtained from organs donated for transplant, but were not used due to age or size mismatch; none of these individuals had clinical evidence of airflow limitation.
