Rectal epithelia from cystic fibrosis patients vs. Rectal epithelia from healthy controls

Gene expression profiles from rectal suction specimens of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients (n=16), carrying the CF-specific D508-mutated CFTR allele were compared with those of rectal suction specimens of non-CF subjects (n=13; control). 

The CFTR gene encodes a chloride and bicarbonate channel on the apical epithelial cell membrane.
