Subcutanoeus white adipose - abdominal obesity metabolic syndrome patients vs. subcutanoeus white adipose - lean control group

Differentially expressed genes between obese patients and lean controls. The microarray platform is a dual-channel array: adipose tissue samples were labled with Cy5 and reference RNA pools made of a mix of commercial human liver, adipose and skeletal muscle were labeled with Cy3. Intensity ratios between Cy5 and Cy3 were filtered using an average intensity of 1.5 times above the background signal. Presented values are log2 fold change between adipose tissues from obese and lean subjects. Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons was performed with global risk error rate less than 5% and false discovery rate <0.01.

Microarray gene expression profiling of adipose tissues collected from both abdominal obesity metabolic syndrome patients and from lean control subjects. Subcutaneous and visceral adipose biopsies were obtained during abdominal surgery. Obese patients (n=8) were 21 to 66 year old, with a body mass index (BMI) of 17.3–48.5 kg/m2. Presence of the metabolic syndrome was evaluated according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria for metabolic syndrome. This microarray experiment includes additional adipose samples from overweight and obese patients, these samples were not included in LifeMap analysis
