Annulus fibrosus cells provide structural properties of intervertebral disk. The cells in the outer fraction of the annulus fibrosus are fibroblast-like, while the cells in the inner fraction are more rounded. In the adult, the cell density in the annulus fibrosus is very low, significantly lower than in other cartilogenous tissues.
