Yolk Sac Mesoderm

ExM.YSM
The yolk sac mesoderm originates in the extraembryonic mesoderm and forms the outer layer of the yolk sac membrane. It is a highly vascularized layer, and gives rise to blood islands which are the site of extraembryonic hematopoiesis. Additionally, primordial germ cells can be found in this layer of the yolk sac.
