Ocular surface ectoderm cells are multipotent cells in the head ectoderm that give rise to multiple cell lineages including lens, all epithelia of the eye surface (cornea, limbus, conjunctiva), ectoderm-derived components of the lacrimal and harderian (in mice) glands, and the eyelid epidermis.
