EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT & STEM CELL COMPENDIUM

Limb > Forelimb Dorsal Muscles
Lmb.FDMs

The cells from the limb myotome migrate to the limb bud area by two distinct routes: lateral route that brings the cells to the dorsal muscle area, and ventral route that brings the cells to the ventral muscle area. Both ventral and dorsal muscle masses undergo further proximo-distal specification resulting in formation of stylopod, zeugopod and autopod muscles. Each muscle is characterized by unique composition of slow and fast fibers suited for its function.
