Submesothelial Cells (MSS)

Lvr.MSS.SbMsCs
Submesothelial cells exist just beneath the mesothelial surface of the developing liver. Their morphology and marker expression are similar to that of of hepatic stellate cells, but submesothelial cells are distinguishable by their expression of ALCAM and PDGFR and their association with the basal lamina type IV collagen.

Ki-67 staining has shown that proliferative activity of submesothelial cells is higher than that of mesothelial cells or transitional cells (pre-stellate cells).
