Diencephalic Alar Plate

The lateral wall of the neural tube is subdivided into two columnar domains: the basal and the alar plate. The diencephalic alar plate is located in the dorsal part of the diencephalon wall (close to the roof plate) and gives rise to the thalamus, epithalamus and the subthalamic nuclei (a major part of the prethalamus).
