The dorsal pancreatic mesenchymal cells play a critical role in dorsal pancreatic cell differentiation by producing multiple signals which direct differentiation of the dorsal pancreatic bud cells toward a pancreatic fate. Dorsal pancreatic development is also dependent on signals from these cells.
