The tendon primordia is generated at future sites of tendon formation by aggregation of early tenocyte cells. Formation of the tendon primordia is an essential step in tendon morphogenesis and in the development of the entire musculoskeletal system, as it positions future tendons at proper anatomical locations between the bone and the muscle it will connect.
