AlloStem®, adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells combined with allograft bone for bone grafting
AlloStem® is comprised of allogenic adult adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) combined with partially demineralized allograft bone. AlloStem® serves as an alternative to autograft bone graft, as it offers three key properties necessary for formation of new bone: an osteoconductive natural scaffold, growth factors mediating osteoinductive signals and osteogenic stem cells. AlloStem® can be used for a number of bone grafting applications. It features the ability to accelerate healing of spine fusions, and help repair non-unions of bone fractures and is even used to reconstruct whole bones (i.e., ribs).
A clinical trial is being conducted to evaluate the outcome of implantation of AlloStem® grafts as an alternative to autograft bone grafts in subtalar arthrodesis (bone fusion) procedures. The live cellular AlloStem® allograft is being assessed in subjects diagnosed with degenerative osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, inflammatory arthritis or other conditions of the hindfoot requiring subtalar arthrodesis.
