NeoCart, collagen scaffold seeded with chondrocytes for knee defect
NeoCart is a tissue implant comprised of autologous chondrocytes seeded on a scaffold and grown under physiological conditions. The chondrocytes are isolated, using collagenase, from a cartilage biopsy of a non-weight bearing area of the joint. The cells are harvested, seeded into a unique 3-dimensional collagen scaffold, and cultured under exacting conditions of high pressure, oxygen concentration and perfusion simulating the knee environment. The created neocartilage is implanted into the defect.
Treatment decreases knee pain and improves function within six months of implantation and induces significantly greater improvements when compared to the conventional microfracture treatment.
