PermaDerm®, fibroblasts and keratinocytes for burns
PermaDerm® is comprised of autologous fibroblasts and keratinocytes cultured on an absorbable collagen substrate that produces a live skin substitute that contains both epidermal and dermal components. A small full-thickness section of skin is harvested from the patient and the cells are isolated and cultured separately in nutrient media in order to expand the cell populations. The cells are propagated in culture so as to lessen the required quantity of donor skin from the patient’s own body. The cells are then combined with a proprietary biopolymer collagen-based substrate, upon which they organize themselves to ultimately mimic the structure of normal skin.
