Hematopoietic stem cells for autoimmune-related retinopathy
The aim of this study is to assess the safety and feasibility of autologous peripheral hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in patients with autoimmune-related retinopathy, following patient conditioning with high-dose cyclophosphamide and anti-thymocyte globulin. Treatment was well tolerated and there was an improvement in symptoms and a reversal of declining visual fields and acuity. There was also a reduction in the total number of anti-retina and anti-optic nerve antibodies.
