Mesenchymal stromal cells for treatment of chronic renal failure

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of intravenous injection of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells on chronic renal failure (CRF). The study was conducted in COL4A3-deficient mice, a CRF model. Mesenchymal stem cells were injected to the tail vein on a weekly basis. Treatment prevented loss of peritubular capillaries, however there was no delay in renal failure and effect on survival of the mice.
