Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells for the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis

The study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of umbilical cord-derived mesencymal stem cell (UC-MSCs) transplantation in primary biliary cirrhosis patients. There was a significant reduction in ascites volume in patients undergoing UC-MSC transfusion compared to controls (p < 0.05). In addition, UC-MSC therapy significantly improved liver function, as indicated by increased serum albumin levels, decreased total serum bilirubin levels, and decrease in serum sodium model for end-stage liver disease scores (MELD Na).
