Fetal bone marrow cells were isolated from long bones of 22-week-old fetuses by flushing the bones with medium.
Fetal bone marrow cell suspensions were depleted of red cells and mononuclear cells and then plated in M199 culture medium supplemented with fetal bovine serum (FBS, 10%), penicillin/streptavidin (1% ), fungizone, endothelial cell growth factor (ECGF, 20 mg/ml ) and heparin (8 U/ml), in culture flasks precoated with gelatin (1% ).
