EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT & STEM CELL COMPENDIUM

Endothelial progenitor cells - Human Adult Stem / Progenitor Cell

Human endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) can be collected from umbilical cord blood or peripheral blood after leukapheresis and purified using various techniques.

Endothelium
When isolating EPCs from the umbilical cord, mononuclear cord blood cells can be isolated via a density Histopaque gradient. After gradient selection, cells are cultured in endothelial basal medium-2 to form EPC colonies. Alternatively, CD 133+ cells can be isolated from peripheral blood by magnetic activated cell sorting (MACS).
