Generation of syncytiotrophoblast cells from human embryonic stem cells
Human embryonic stem cells are induced to differentiate into syncytiotrophoblast cells by exposure to BMP4, which is coupled with inhibition of both activin/nodal and FGF signaling. The differentiated cells secrete βhCG hormone, are multinucleated and express syncytiotrophoblast-specific markers.
