Through this protocol, endoderm can be induced in embryoid bodies (EBs), either by limited exposure to serum or by culture in the presence of activin A under serum-free conditions. Differentiation can be monitored by using an embryonic stem cell (ESC) line with the green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labeled cDNA targeted to the brachyury locus.
