Microarray gene expression profiling of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) obtained from Alzheimer's disease patients (AD, n=3) and normal control subjects (n=3).
Neurologists performed clinical and neurological evaluations on each participant.  All AD patients met the criteria for probable AD of the Alzheimer's disease and Related Disorders Association, only AD patients with a clinical dementia rating score (CDR) of 1 were enrolled. Normal control subjects received the same standard evaluation to exclude any cognitive impairment. This experiments includes additional samples of PBMCs collected from subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), these samples were not included in LifeMap analysis.
