Skin biopsy - herpes simplex virus infected patients vs. Skin biopsy - uninfected controls

Microarray gene expression profiling of skin biopsies obtained from herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) patients. Three-millimeter punch biopsy specimens (n=4) were obtained from active lesion sites during symptomatic recurrences.  Half of the biopsy specimen included the vesicle area and the other half covered the immediately adjacent erythematous skin area. Uninfected control skin biopsy specimens (n=3) were taken from the patients' contralateral normal genital skin.

This microarray experiment also includes skin samples obtained from the newly healed lesions of the same patients, and from the same sites at 2 and 4 weeks post-healing. These samples were not included in the LifeMap analysis.
