Amniotic Epithelial Cells (Amn)

Amn.Amn.AmECs
Amniotic epithelial cells are derived from the inner epithelial layer of the amniotic membrane 8 days after fertilization and before gastrulation. Human Amniotic epithelial cells are unique, in that they display characteristics of pluripotent stem cells, but do not produce teratoma. Amniotic epithelial cells are capable of differentiating into: osteogenic, chondrogenic, adipogenic, myogenic, cardiomyogenic, neurogenic, pancreatic and hepatic cell types.

NANOG, SOX2 and Oct-4 were found to be localized in nuclei of 5–8% amniotic epithelial cells.
