MultiStem®, bone marrow-derived cells for neurological disorders

MultiStem® are adult bone marrow-derived cells used for the treatment of traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Intravenous injection of MultiStem® preserves splenic mass and the integrity of the blood brain barrier and increases the brain M2/M1 macrophage ratio in cases of traumatic brain injury, which in turn, can potentially reduce the neurobehavioral deficit typically associated with this condition. Treatment of dorsal column crush injury with MultiStem® prevented axonal degeneration and induced regeneration of injured axons. In a multiple sclerosis animal model, treatment decreased lesion burden in the spinal cord and improved remyelination.
