VASCUGEL®, aortic endothelial cells for vascular injury and disease

VASCUGEL® (formerly known as SRM003) is composed of allogenic human aortic endothelial cells cultured on a gelatin matrix, Gelfoam®. VASCUGEL is placed on the outside of the blood vessel, at the arteriovenous (AV) access site, during surgical intervention. It is used during balloon angioplasty and stent placement in the superficial femoral artery in the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). No evidence of local or systemic safety concerns was observed in patients with vascular injury treated with Vascugel. Treated PAD patients had no major adverse events and treatment was well-tolerated. An increase in resting ankle-brachial index compared with baseline 48 weeks following implantation, was demonstrated following treatment.

The device is also known as PVS-10200, indicated for peripheral artery disease.
