Regulatory T lymphocytes (University of Illinois at Chicago)

Regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs) play a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis and self-tolerance through their inhibitory impact on auto-reactive effector T cells.

Blood was obtained using a 16-gauge IV needle placed in the left or right median cubital vein.  Collected samples were passed through a blood cell separator, for six to seven hours, to isolate mononuclear cells, which were then exposed to allogeneic human umbilical cord blood-derived multipotent stem cells in the Stem Cell Educator device.
