Stem/progenitor cells (StemEx) are isolated from a portion of a single unit of umbilical cord blood using Gamida Cell’s proprietary high affinity copper chelator technology, Tetraethylpentamine. It reduces the intracellular copper level, thereby delaying differentiation, enabling robust population expansion and increased engraftment efficiency.
Umbilical cord blood is expanded ex vivo for 21 days pre-transplantion, in the presence of TPO, IL-6, Flt-3L and SCF (50ng/ml each) and tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA; 5μM).
