NCL1 (Newcastle University)

The NCL1 human embryonic stem cell line was derived from the inner cell mass of an 8-day blastocyst. NCL1 cells express pluripotency markers and form teratomas in-vivo which contained cells of all the three germ layers. Cells have a normal karyotype 46,XX.

Cells are cultured on a mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) feeder layer in embryonic stem cell (ES) medium comprised of Knockout-DMEM, supplemented with β-mercaptoethanol (100 μM ),  L-glutamine (1 mM), nonessential amino acids (100 mM),  serum replacement (SR; 10%), penicillin-streptomycin (1% ), and  basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF; 4 ng/ml).
