Directed differentiation of functional astroglial subtypes from human pluripotent stem cells

This protocol describes the direct differentiation of astrocytes from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC), using a chemically defined system. These astrocytes-like cells exhibit specific regional and functional characteristics and functional properties manifested by neurotransmitter and ion uptake, support of neuronal maturation and engraftment into mouse brain.
