Generation of articular chondrocytes from stem cells by treatment with activin A

This protocol enables the generation of chondrocytes from murine embryonic stem cell by a short exposure to activin A in a serum-free monolayer differentiation system. Alternatively, a prolonged treatment with activin A enables the induction of articular chondrocytes. The induced cells express typical chondrogenic markers.
