Vascular smooth muscle generation from human pluripotent stem cells, via mesenchymal intermediates

This protocol describes a method to generate functional vascular smooth muscle cells from human pluripotent stem cells. Stem cells are first differentiated into mesenchymal stem cells, and then to smooth muscle cells (SMCs). These SMCs express smooth muscle cell-specific markers, and exhibit contractile function.
