Fetal Inner Root Sheath Cells (IRS)

Hair.IRS.FIRSCs
Inner root sheath cells make up the most inner epithelial layer enveloping the hair shaft. These cells for three layers: inner root sheath cuticle, Huxley's layer and Henle's layer.

Fetal inner root sheath cells are formed at bulbous peg stage (stages 6-8) of hair formation. The gene expression that appears in fetal inner root sheath cells reflects the collective expression of genes in all three types of cells: cuticle, Henle and Huxley cells.
