GLP-1 CellBeads®, encapsulated mesenchymal stem cells for intracerebral hemorrhage

GLP-1 CellBeads® is a bead implant which encapsulates stem cells. The encapsulated cells release, amongst other factors, a proprietary glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). A clinical Phase I/II safety trial has been conducted with this product to treat intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), a severe form of stroke. There were no side effects from the surgical interventions nor implant-related side effects. Also, up to 30% of the transplanted mesenchymal stem cells survived the 2-week implantation period and still actively secreted natural factors after explantation.
