Adipose spheroid-derived Schwann cells for the treatment of spinal cord injury

This study aims to test the potential of adipose-derived Schwann cells in treating spinal cord injury. Schwann cells were generated from rat adipose tissue and were transplanted into the injured spinal cord of adult female SD rats. The transplanted cells formed myelin sheaths in the transplanted area, and secreted neuronal growth factors that promoted tissue regeneration and the recruitment of host cells into the injury site. Functional motor improvement was also demonstrated.
