UCB-CD133+ cells are progenitor cells isolated from human umbilical cord blood according to the positive expression of the protein marker CD133.
CD133+ cells are purified from the mononuclear cell (MNC) population of fresh placental blood. First the MNC population is obtained from the blood using a Ficoll gradient and the CD133+cells are then purified by magnetic-activated cell sorting columns (MACS) using microbead-conjugated antibodies.
