The clonal human embryonic progenitor cell line E164 was derived from the registered parental hES cell line ACT03 (MA03).  It expresses markers of intermediate mesoderm, particularly resembling markers of early renal progenitor cells, metanephric mesenchyme and the S-shaped body (PAX2, PAX8, LHX1, HNF1B and JAG1). It also highly expresses the mesodermal marker GALR2 and markers of mural cells, smooth muscle cells (ACTA2, AEBP1, Tagln, CNN1) and pericytes (KCNJ8, ACTA2, PDGFB, HBEGF).
