The SA01 cell line was derived from an eight-cell embryo donated on day 3 of culture by patients undergoing fertility treatments. Cells have a normal karyotype, 46 XY.

Cells are cultured on top of a mouse embryonic feeder (mEF) layer in VitroHES™ medium.
