Erythrocytes are mature red blood cells, and constitute the final stage of the erythroid lineage differentiation. Erythrocytes do not synthesize mRNAs or proteins. Erythrocytes leave the bone marrow, enter the blood circulation and function as oxygen carriers, via their hemoglobin molecule.
