Autopod Growth Plate

Bn.AGP
The autopod growth plates are located in the carpal, metacarpal and digit bones and contain proliferating chondrocytes responsible for the longitudinal growth of the bone. As the older chondrocytes degenerate, they are ossified by existing osteoblasts to form a new bone. The plate exists in embryos and children and is replaced by the epiphyseal line when an individual stops growing.
