Hippocampus

Brn.Hpp
The hippocampus is a horseshoe-shaped, paired structure. One hippocampus is located in the left hemisphere and the other in the right hemisphere. It is a part of the limbic system and plays important roles in the consolidation of information from short-term memory to long-term memory and spatial navigation.

In Alzheimer's disease the hippocampus is one of the first regions of the brain to suffer damage.
