Midbrain tegmentum

Brn.MdT
The midbrain tegmentum has a rather homogenous organization along the anteroposterior length of the mesencephalon, providing fundamental support for the notion that the midbrain consists of a single neural tube segment. The substantia nigra and the ventral tegemental area (VTA) are two major structures within the midbrain tegmentum in which dopaminergic neuron populations reside. The midbrain tegmentum also includes the oculomotor nucleus and the red nucleus.
