Keratocytes (CS)

Eye.CS.KrC
Keratocytes (fibroblasts) of the corneal stroma are located between the lamella collagen fibers and secrete an extracellular matrix which includes collagen and proteoglycans. In addition, they produce crystalline proteins to maintain corneal transparency. After corneal injury, keratocytes become activated and transform into repair phenotypes-corneal fibroblasts or myofibroblasts.
