Hepatic Diverticulum

The hepatic diverticulum is an out-pocket of thickened ventral foregut epithelium adjacent to the developing heart and is the first structure bearing morphological signs of the embryonic liver.

The liver diverticulum forms in mice by E9 and expands into an obvious liver bud by E10.
