Fetal hepatocytes originate from those hHepatoblasts in the liver parenchyma that are not in contact with portal veins gradually differentiate into mature hepatocytes. At E17, hepatocytes acquire their characteristic epithelial morphology and arranged in hepatic chords on the apical surfaces of bile canaliculi. Several genes, including EAalphafetoprotein, H19, and gGlypican-3 expression is is robustnotable in fetal hepatocytes and sharply reduced in fully differentiated cellsmature hepatocytes.
